| WALPOLE COMMUNITY
CENTRE |
| Since the completion of the
Collocation Project in March / April 2005 Walpole Telecentre has
acted as Manager of the Community Centre under a License with
the Shire of Manjimup. This allow for ease of booking the
now upgraded venue for social, business and other events.
Over the last four years the
Telecentre Team has actively fund raised to complete the fit-out
of the Centre the cost of which was not allowed for in the
refurbishment project.
This has resulted in the "old
Hall" now being a preferred venue to hire and is fully equipped
to cater for 100 people in -
- Padded chairs acquired
through Adopt a Chair Project where each chair was paid for
by donation by a specific person or business.
Acknowledgement of this generosity is in the form of
individual plaques engraved with the donors' name attached
to the back of each chair. The cost of this gesture
was borne by Mt Barker Community Bank Limited.
- Tables and Trestles fund
raised by a raffle whose prize was donated by the Walpole
Ladies Craft Group as well as a number of sausage sizzles.
- Crockery, Glassware and
Cutlery fund raised by sausage sizzles.
- Upgrading the kitchen to be
"approved" for cooking for events in the Hall and
Telecentre.
- Acquisition of a bain marie,
thanks to the generosity of Walpole Op Shop.
- South West Community
Development Funds acquired a motorised 16:9 screen enable
the hall to be used as a cinema as well as for seminars.
- Community Services Industry
Award - Strengthening Communities 2008 winner came with
prize money of $5,000 which was recently spent on acquiring
a fully professional sound system.
- Funding via Shire of
Manjimup has allowed for an upgrade to the entrance of the
Community Centre providing disabled access. With an
enormous input by the Walpole Work Camp utilising craftsmens'
skills and local raw materials a most amazing front entrance
has been achieved. This will stand the test of time as
a monument to the teams' dedication in working together
towards a community goal.
